What is crowdsourcing?

Crowdsourcing is a sourcing model in which individuals or organizations obtain goods and services, including ideas, voting, micro-tasks, and finances, from a large, relatively open, and often rapidly evolving group of participants. That's according to Wikipedia. But in other words, it's when people all work together for a common goal or project!

How does crowdsourcing relate to social media?

Crowdsourcing can be used in social media by asking your followers about what they would like to hear about in your posts. For example, a few weeks ago I made a post doing exactly this and someone asked me to write about... crowdsourcing! Asking your audience not only engages them but it also gets your creative juices flowing for content.

How can crowdsourcing benefit your content?

The benefits of crowdsourcing are not limited to creating relevant content for your followers and getting them to participate. It's also a tool to gauge their interests in certain topics. Don't be afraid to ask for feedback and direction on your social pages. Your audience will love feeling included and are usually happy to share their thoughts!

As content creators, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking we know exactly what our audience is interested in. But when you're humble and ask your online community what they want, it will further enhance your social media quality and engagement. Let me know in the comments what happens when you try this!
